The Slave Sultan

In the year 1773, Sultan Mustafa III of the Ottoman throne dies of a deadly disease. Abdulhamid I and Selim III, of whom one was the brother of the late Sultan and the otherwas the son of the Sultan. As expected, a struggle for the thronewas unavoidable… The time was the declining years of the Ottoman Empire. Caucasian Muslims were left unprotected and were fighting against gangs. “The Slave Sultan” drama tells the story of a girl enslaved in Caucasus and sold in slave market and afterwards being saved by Ottoman soldiers and brought to Esma Sultan Mansion and finally becoming wife of Sultan Abdulhamid I. This life story of the girl which extended from enslavement to sultanate intersected with struggles for the Ottoman throne. “The Slave Sultan” drama is a project which originates from historical facts and it blends the life story of Naks-ı Dil Sultan -who was the mother of Mahmud II and known as the last mother sultan of The Topkapı Palace- with the struggle for the throne between Abdulhamid I and Prince Selim.
